Former Australian bowler, Geoff Lawson has been selected to coach the Pakistan Cricket Team. The 49 year old bowler confirmed that the Pakistan Cricket Board PCB had contacted him on Sunday to confirm his appointment as coach for the national team. Lawson will succeed Bob Woolmer, who died under mysterious circumstances after Pakistan exit from the world cup losing to minnows Ireland. “It is a challenge, a wonderful challenge to coach such a talented side”, said Lawson, after he was selected to take over as what is considered to be a very high profile coaching job.
Dav Whatmore former Bangladesh a forerunner to this position lost out in the end. It is believed that a large number of players and officials were in favor of having the Aussie coach their team instead of any other. Apparently former Lankan captain Arjuna Ranatunga’s criticism of Whatmore did not help his cause at all. Coaching Pakistan is a tough task, and all former coaches will testify to this. Lawson’s first task will be the Twenty20 World Cup.
