Mahendra Sigh Dhoni received a fillip ahead of the England tour. He is the highest ranked Indian batsman (5th) in the latest ranking released by the ICC ahead of the tour. In fact he is the only Indian at the top ten, Captain Rahul Dravid slipped to the 15th position while Yuvraj Singh moved up to the 19th position in the latest rankings. Ricky Ponting of Australia continues to be at the top of the ranking with 799 points followed closely by Kevin Pietersen at 795 in the second position.  There are six Australian batsmen in the top ten, ample demonstration of the fact that they are the current World Champions.

There is no Indian in the top ten bowling ranking for ODIs released by the ICC. Ajit Agarkar climbed up to the 12th position while Zaheer entered the top twenty and is 20th in the rankings. Shaun Pollock is the highest ranked bowler with 876 followed by Nathan Bracken of Australia at 794 points. Abdur Razzaq of Bangladesh is in the 9th position followed by Andre Nel of South Africa. Shaun Pollock and Jacques Kallis are the two of the leading top all-rounder according to the ICC Rankings.

The series victory against South Africa in Belfast, Ireland has helped the India player move up in the rankings table. The series against England is a good chance for the Indians to improve their standing in the ICC rankings.
